Moving interstate can be a long and dubious process and one which will no doubt places a great deal of stress on you. You won't need to waste time moving things out of the way, and it limits the amount of dust that will be circulated in the air. Try to clean as thoroughly as possible so that you can go ahead and unpack right away, and air out the property to remove any stale odours. You can even prepare the floors with plastic sheets or strips of cardboard boxes to allow the removal company and your family to offload the boxes to the correct rooms quickly, without having to constantly remove their shoes or dirty the floor.

Boxed Up and Labelled

Preparing your boxes is one of the best things you can do. Make sure the box is clearly labelled with the appropriate room that it needs to go to, and that you have a list taped to the top with an inventory of the items inside. Again this will make it easy for the removal company, but also for you when you're searching for specific items.

Overnight Essentials

Unpacking can often take a day or two, if not longer. Having a family overnight bag will ensure that you all stay fresh and have some form of entertainment for those essential break periods. Pack a few spare clothes for each person along with a group toiletry bag and a first aid kit. As for refreshments tea and coffee are always a welcome treat, alongside some playing cards or a travel pack compendium of games. You can even pick up some cheap paper plates and plastic cutlery to reduce any washing up and to use with a takeaway, which is of the home movers meal of choice.
