Moving a household is bad enough when it comes to the impact on daily life, but when it comes to business relocation, then you are also facing an impact on your income. Every moment that your business is not working is lost productivity and money. Therefore, as a business owner who needs to move their business shortly, it is imperative you are armed with tips to make the move go swiftly and effectively. Here are three tips to get you started.

Organize Computer Cables

Each computer has a number of cables attached to it, so you need an efficient way of ensuring each cable is correctly allocated back to its relevant computer. The easiest way to do this is to buy large ziplock bags so that you have enough to allocate one for each computer. Write the computer user's name on the front of each bag, and then as you unplug each cable place it into the relevant bag. The bags should all be placed together in one cardboard archive box which is labelled to denote that it contains computer cords. It will make your life a lot simpler when you are putting the computers back together.

Pack Non-Essentials Early

Obviously, you can't pack up the whole office early, but packing up as much as possible before moving day while your staff continues to work is another way to reduce the impact of the move. Items you could pack early include the following:

  • excess stationery items
  • archived files
  • draw contents
  • filing cabinet contents
  • kitchen cupboard contents

While you are packing the non-essential items, you can also attend to another important task.

Dump Old Tech

As you go through every cupboard in your office, it is time to be brutal and toss the old technology you no longer use. It is an inefficient waste of time to pack and unpack items which will never be used again. However, make sure you don't just chuck these items in the bin. Instead, take them to a technology recycler, because you could get a little money back when they are stripped of copper and metal.

These are just three ways you can get a headstart on your office relocation without impacting your staff's working ability. The more you get done before the movers arrive on moving day, the more your staff can work right up to the shifting deadline. Your moving company should have other efficient packing tips to make this change quick and painless.
