Two tips to remember if you have a job interview the day after you move house
If you have a job interview scheduled for the day after you want to move house, the tips provided below could help you to prepare for and navigate this tricky situation.
Reach out to a company that provides removal services
The first thing you must do is book a removalist, as moving without one in these circumstances could be a disaster. Having a removalist present throughout the house move will allow you to avoid wearing yourself out, as you won't have to do any energy-depleting tasks like heaving heavy furniture or lugging around big boxes. This, in turn, will ensure that you feel alert and well-rested the following day when you go to your interview and need to answer tough questions.
Additionally, because the removalists will manage most of the hardest aspects of the house move, you will have quite a bit of free time on this day, which you can spend preparing for your upcoming interview. You can, for example, find a quiet area in the house and practise answering common interview questions or do additional research on the company that will be interviewing you.
Last but not least, using professional removal services will almost eliminate the chance of any disasters (such as a precious family heirloom breaking) happening whilst you're moving which could leave you too upset and preoccupied to perform well at your interview the next day.
Put your interview outfit and garment steamer into a separate bag or box.
It is best to pick out your interview outfit before the move and wash it in your current home before the washing machine has to be disconnected and packed up (as it might take longer than you expect for the washing machine to be set up in the other house). You should then place the outfit carefully in a bag or box that is light enough for you to carry and keep by your side when you move, as this will minimise the chance of you misplacing it.
If you have a garment steamer, you should pop this into the bag or box with your outfit and use this to remove any wrinkles from the garments, instead of an iron, after you are in the new house. Trying to locate and then find some free space in which to set up your ironing board, in the midst of all the boxes that will be in the house on the day of your interview, will probably leave you in a stressed-out state (which is not ideal when you're readying yourself for a potentially nerve-wracking interview).
If you use a handheld steamer that you have stowed alongside your outfit, you can simply hang each garment up on the back of a door and quickly run the steamer over them to release any creases in seconds.
